When it comes to unique, heartfelt weddings, Jilly & Dominic’s boho celebration at Rock Farm in Slane, County Meath was a dream to photograph — even with the Irish summer weather doing its thing!

As a Northern Ireland wedding photographer, I get to witness all kinds of magical days, but this one had a truly special energy from start to finish. From globe-trotting guests and handmade origami rabbits to a dance floor that refused to quit, this was a celebration full of character, colour, and connection.

A Boho Wedding at Rock Farm Slane, County Meath

Nestled in the lush Boyne Valley, Rock Farm Slane is a rustic and eco-friendly wedding venue that oozes charm. Set right beside the River Boyne and just a stone’s throw from the legendary Slane Castle, it was the perfect setting for Jilly & Dominic’s relaxed, boho-style wedding.

Their June wedding brought together friends and family from all over the world, and although the weather served up some persistent rain, the mood was nothing short of electric. Guests embraced the indoors, creating a close-knit, vibrant atmosphere that honestly felt like being backstage at a music festival — which is fitting, given the venue’s proximity to Ireland’s most iconic concert location!

Embracing the Rain — A Real Irish Wedding Story

Let’s talk about the rain. Was it constant? Yes. Did it matter? Not a bit. In fact, it brought everyone together under one roof, creating a warm, intimate buzz that suited their celebration perfectly. As a documentary wedding photographer, I’m always looking for those honest, in-between moments — and the weather only added to the emotion and spontaneity of the day.

We found creative ways to dodge the showers, embraced the puddles, and took advantage of every dry spell to sneak outside for portraits. The result? A beautiful blend of candid shots and atmospheric portraits that told their love story exactly as it happened — unfiltered, joyful, and real.

Personal Touches and Boho Details

Jilly has an incredible eye for detail, and every element of the day reflected her personality and creativity. From the earthy tones and dried florals to her stunning vintage bridal gown, the decor was boho perfection.

But the standout detail? Dominic’s origami rabbits. Over 100 of them were handcrafted and placed around the venue — a nod to his talent and a quirky, love-filled touch that had guests talking all day. It’s moments like these that make photographing weddings such a joy: the little personal flourishes that turn a beautiful wedding into their wedding.

For couples like Jilly & Dominic, the focus wasn’t on staged moments — it was on connection, emotion, and storytelling. That’s exactly what documentary wedding photography is all about. I aim to blend into the background, capturing laughter, tears, movement, and mischief as it unfolds naturally.

Even on a rainy day, there were endless chances to document the joy, love, and mad craic of the day — from group hugs and umbrella dashes to wild dancing and quiet, meaningful glances.
